Garden Chair Covers

Chairs are the piece people leave out and stop thinking about. The frame holds up, but the seat pad soaks and stays wet against the webbing, textilene slackens where water sits in the sag, and the feet mark the terrace where they’ve stood in a puddle all winter.

We make waterproof chair covers to measure, in our workshop in Murcia, Spain. Single chairs, stacks of four or six, dining chairs, recliners and lounge armchairs — cut to your dimensions rather than to a size range, so the cover clears the arms and doesn’t balloon in wind.

If the chairs live under the table year-round, a table and chairs cover over the whole set is usually the better answer than covering each chair. Both options are below.

Which chair are you covering?

The shape matters more here than anywhere else in the garden, because a chair cover that’s too generous is the one most likely to end up across the lawn.

Dining chairs, stacked. If you stack four or six over winter, one cover over the stack is more practical than six separate covers, and it’s what most people ask for. We need the stack height, not the single chair height.

Reclining chairs. Measure with the backrest in the position you’ll store it. A cover cut to the upright position won’t go over a chair left reclined, and vice versa.

Lounge armchairs. Wider and lower, usually with cushions that stay in place. Measure to the top of the back cushion, and tell us if there’s a footstool that tucks under.

Covers for rattan and other brands' chairs

Rattan dining sets are the most common outdoor seating in the UK, and the chairs are the part that dates first: the weave lifts at the edges where water gets in, and once it does the repair is rarely invisible.

A made-to-measure cover fits a rattan garden chair as well as it fits ours, because it’s cut to your measurements rather than sold in small, medium and large. Most of the covers we make are for other brands’ furniture.

Send us the width, depth and height. If you’re covering a stack, measure the stack.

Frequently Asked Questions — Garden Chair Covers

Can one cover go over a stack of chairs?

Yes, and for storage that’s usually what you want. Stack the chairs first, then measure the height of the stack, the width and the depth. Six stacked dining chairs under one cover is easier to handle than six separate covers, and there are fewer edges for water to find.

Yes. Measure with the backrest in the position you’ll leave it — a cover cut for an upright chair won’t fit one stored reclined. If you want it to work either way, tell us and we’ll build to the larger position.

Yes. The cover is cut to your measurements, so the fit doesn’t depend on the material or the make. Most of the covers we produce are for other brands’ furniture.

If the chairs stay tucked under the table, one cover over the table and chairs together is tidier and sheds water better than several covers with overlapping edges. If you stack the chairs somewhere else, cover the stack.

Leave them on and we’ll cut the cover to include them, or take them indoors and we’ll cut to the frame. Tell us which when you send the measurements — the difference is usually 8 to 10 cm of height.

Not if it’s cut to the chair. Covers lift when there’s slack for wind to get under, which is the failure mode of fixed-size covers on a shape as irregular as a chair. Ours are made with fixings sized to the piece.
