Parasol Bases

The right base is what keeps a parasol upright — matched here by weight and mast size, from a small bistro table to a full commercial installation.

Choosing the Right Parasol Base for Maximum Stability

A parasol is only as stable as its base. Centre pole models need enough weight directly beneath the canopy; cantilever models — where the weight sits to one side, not underneath — need considerably more, since the whole structure balances off-centre. Every base below is sized by weight and mast diameter, so you can match it to your parasol rather than guessing.

Rule of thumb: a cantilever parasol always needs a heavier base than a centre pole model of a similar size — the weight is off to one side rather than centred under the canopy, so it has to work harder to stop the whole structure tipping.

What size parasol base do I need?

It depends on the parasol type and size. As a starting point: 16-25kg suits a small to mid-size centre pole parasol in a sheltered garden; 40-50kg suits a larger centre pole model or an exposed spot; cantilever parasols need considerably more, from around 100kg upwards, because the weight sits to one side rather than under the canopy.

A centre pole parasol’s weight is centred directly under the canopy, so a lighter base can hold it steady. A cantilever’s side-post arm holds the canopy off to one side, so the base has to counterbalance that leverage — which is why our cantilever models pair with our heaviest bases.

Our concrete bases (HV and Bercley) fit masts up to 50-55mm, and our wheeled bases (RH) fit masts from 26mm to 50mm. Check your parasol’s mast diameter on its product page before ordering a base.

Yes — our RH and Granite wheeled bases combine the required weight with a locking brake, so staff can reposition a parasol safely without lifting it, which suits bars, restaurants and hotel terraces with daily footfall.

Our Set of 4 Concrete Parasol Bases is the recommended pairing for the Cunil Lux-300 and Viena 300; the Longbay-350, our largest cantilever model, is best paired with our Granite 100 Wheeled Parasol Base.

Yes, provided the weight is matched correctly to the parasol size — see our weight guide above. In particularly exposed or coastal spots, we’d always recommend sizing up rather than down.
